Cais Velho

Vila Baleira's historic pier, begun on 19 March 1929: 102 m long and 8 m wide, resting on equally spaced pillars. Before it, passengers and goods were carried ashore from the boats on men's backs. Now a monument and a place of leisure, it is the beach's favourite diving board and the start of the seafront promenade, near the Padrão dos Descobrimentos inaugurated on 28 August 1960. Rehabilitated in the second half of 2017 for €76,000. Fontinha beach, 720 m long, begins at its foot.
